Miss Alice McAra, assistant mistress at the Poroutawhao School, has been appointed to a similar position at Ranfurly t Central Otago, and will take up her new duties when school re-opens next week. :

The death is announced, in a Press cable received from Melbourne to-day, of Sir Nicholas Lockyer, first Commissioner of Taxation in New South Wales (1896-1901); aged 78. The deceased was Taxation Commissioner of the Commonwealth from 1901 to 1911 and Comptroller-General of Customs in 1911-13. He was a member of the Inter-State Commission, 1913-20, and was first Comptroller of Repatriation (honorary), in-1917.

The death is reported of Mr William Clement Cargill, of Morvinsville, aged 03. From 1892 to 1902 he was proprietor of- the Wairarapa Star, later known as the Age, and from 1904 until 1908 he controlled the Patea Press. Subsequently he started the Pukekoho Times and then purchased the Morrinsville Star. At the time of his death he was managing director of the Cargill Publishing Company, which publishes the Morrinsville Star, Matamata Eecord and Putaruru Press. Mr Cargill was president of the Master Prinors' Federation from 1928 until 1930. Press Association.
