The retirement on superannuation is announced of the Government Printer, Mr W. A. G. Skinner.

The many friends of Mr James 1 S. McKelvie, of “Puikemarumaru, Carnarvon, will regret to hear that he is -an inmate of a private hospital in Wellington.

Mrs Grainger, wife of Constable W. Grainger, of Waipawa, and formerly of Levin, who underwent a serious operation in the Waipukurau Hospital on Friday, is making satisfactory progress.

The appointment of Mr John Wood as assistant engineer-in-chief to the Public Works Department in succession to Mr McKenzie, recently promoted to the position of engineer-in-chief, was announced yesterday by the Public Service Commissioner.

Dr. Elizabeth Gunn, who went south to spend the school vacation with her mother in Christchurch, was taken suddenly ill with acute appendicitis and an operation was found necessary. Her many friends and those interested in Dr. Gunn’s activities for the welfare of the 'school children will be pleased to learn that she is making good progress and that she hopes to be able to return to the North Island in the near future.
