He contended -that the Ottawa agreement m'ade no mention of quotas l , and despite Mr Coates's .statement,’ the British Government imposed frozen meat, quotas to .assist Australia and South Afric'a. The restriction of butter supplies would increase the tendency to create substitutes,’ thus decreasing the demand for New Zealand produce. Resolutions were carried: — (a) That this meeting supports the policy of free markets and urges Nefw Zealand to offer Britain definite opportunities lof reciprocal advantage in New; Zealand markets in exchange for the advantages of free markets in Britain. ' (b) That the opinion of this meeting ■of, Taranaki dairy farmers be conveyt ed to the Government with the request that nothing be done by our representatives attending the London conference to prejudice the position regarding Tree markets.
