BUSH FIRE DEATH ROLL
(By Telegraph-Press Assn.-Copyright.} (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Monday. The communications destroyed by "bush fires have not yet been restored, "but so far as is known the death roll has not increased beyond nine.
“There are many lines of groceries -•manufactured in the. Dominion which compare favourably, both as regards quality and price, with similar goods imported from overseas, ” stated the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, when addressing the conference of the New Zealand Master Grocers' Federation yesterday. ‘‘The members of your Federation have it in their power to push the sale of such Hew Zealand products, and I hope that your members will co-operate with our manufacturers by inducing the purchasing public to exercise a definite •preference in favour of the locallymade article,” he said. “From the point of view of public welfare, it is essential that the people should be -educated and constantly reminded of the merits of New Zealand goods, and as to the advantages to be gained from rmrsuing a definite policy of purchasing them on every possible occasion The • creation of an increased demand for such goods means that our factories will be more fully employed in producing to meet that demand. Plant and machinery now lying to work again, and most important of -all, many men and women who are now -Cut of work through no fault of their mm, will once more be absorbed in -profitable employment.’
