STORES MANAGER FINED FOR SALE OP INDECENT DOCUMENT. (By Telegraph— Press Association.), (WANGANUI, Friday. George Melville Strathmore, manager of Woolworths, Xitd., Wanganui, was fined £5 by the Magistrate, Mr J. H. Salmon, arising out of the recent prosecution for having an indecent document in his possession for sale, naimel' 7 ’ “Gangster Stories.” The prosecution was authorised by the Solicitor^General. The Magistrate said he had no doubt that in the hands of young and impressionable people and the less intelligent section there was a tendency for this class of publication to deprave and corrupt their minds. He accepted it .that the defendant and Wooiworths were ignorant of the nature and contents of the publication. The offence was therefore not committed wilfully but some penalty was necessary as a warning to booksellers to exercise more care in the supervision of publications for sale. ' ‘ ,
