PERSONAL.
The Government has made arrangements for the ashes of Sir Maui Pomare to lie in state at Parliament House next week (states a Press telegram). Lady Pomare will arrive with the urn by the Makura on Monday. The ashes will be taken to Waikanae on Wednesday, and the obsequies will take place at Waitara on Friday.
The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes announced • td-day that Mr R. A. Anderson, of Invercargill, had been appointed director of the Bank of New Zealand in succession to the late William Reece, of Christchurch. Mr Anderson is chairman of J. G. Ward and Co., of Invercargill, and a member of the Local Bodies Loans Board. The term of appointment is till March next year.
The jalmerston North Hospital Board yesterday received with regret the resignation of Mr S. A. Broadbelt, of Levin. Mr Broadbelt stated that he found he could not give the necessary atention to the Board’s work. In expressing appreciation of the services Mr Broadbelt had rendered as a Horowhenua County representative, the Chairman (Mr J. K. Hornblow) stated . that it was true he was concerned with so many other public bodies that it was difficult always to give time to the affairs of the hospital. He moved thatthe Board record his services during a period of 11 years. Mr G. A. Monk seconded the motion, stating that Broadbelt evidently found himself in ' the position in which others far removed from the Board’s found themselves —they could not give the Board’s affairs the attention tft . which they were entitled.
