JUVENILE DANCE.

ENJOYABLE HOME AND SCHOOLS ASSOCIATION FUNCTION.

Quito a brilliant function was the outcome of the effort of the Home and Schools Association to organise a children's fancy' dress ball and adults* dance in aid of the funds of the Levin Dental Clinic, It took place on Thursday night, in the De Luxe Social Hal!, and was attended by about 250 children and many adults. A great [ deal of preparatory work had been j done by the committee of the association, who had undertaken the responsibility, and they were ably assisted by a number of other ladies and gentlemen. The result will be a welcome addition to the resources of the Clinic, which has been in need of financial assistance for some time past; and this windfall, with others which it is hoped will be forthcoming from time to time will serve to show one of the useful purposes for which the association exists. Children accompanied by parents and friends began to arrive in good time, and the hall soon presented a verygay scene, by reason of the throng of variously garbed young people who occupied it. The multitude of costumes gave, ample evidence of the care that mothers and sisters, and perhaps aunts and cousins, had bestowed on design and finith and their anxiety that the little ones should look their best. Attractive prizes were offered for different classes of costumes, and it was no easy task that faced the ladies who kindly acted as judges— Mesdames 11. F. Bryant, Sutton and T. Bovaa. PRIZE LIST. The awards were as follows: — Quaintest girl (not paper dress) — Davina Morgan, "Autumn Leaves" (Mrs Whitaker's special prize). Quaintest girl (paper dress) —Jean '\Ransom, "Lavender Lady." Mrs Sevan's special —Ken Small, "Butcher Boy." Mrs • Bryant's special —Mary Sklenars, "Basket of Flowers." Mrs Sutton's special—Ena Raymond, "Fairy." The Mayoress spoke in support of the Homo and Schools Association aril thanked all who, by. their attendance and in other ways, had helped to make this, the first effort' of the association, such a success. She explained that the association had been' formed to bring the parents more in touch with the school. A general meeting of the association would be held on June 6th, and it was hoped that there would i>e a large attendance of parents, especially of fathers, as it was considered necessary to have their support as well as that of the mothers. The presentation of prizes was carried out by the Mayor (Mr C, Blenk■horn), who congratulated each of tho successful competitors. His Worship , called for /three cheers for all the mothers for having made it possibly for the children to appear in such ■charming array. There was a hearty response, and it was followed by musical honours. Excellent music was provided for the children's and the adults' dances by Messrs H. Varnham (piano) and H. •Barnett (saxophone). Mr C. Bartholomew rendered admirable service as •M.C., assisted by Messrs W. Meddings and J. Logan. Tlie manner in which assistance—financially in labour and in kind —was forthcoming for the function was indeed gratifying, and many acknowledgments are due from the committee. Much help at the hall was given by the School Committee and in the preliminary work the organisers were heartily assisted by Mr F. J. W. Stallard. A number of ladies outside the committee contributed to the success of the supper arrangements, and donations of food were liberally made by parents and other well-wishers. Mr M. Wills kindly let a lorry, and goods were transported by Mi\F. Macintosh.
