BEEF AND MUTTON VALUES INCREASE.

LOCAL GROWERS HAVE SALE TO THEMSELVES LAMB WILL BE DEAR. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. At the weekly Metropolitan market at Addington to-day, both beef and mutton prices showed increases on those of last week V sale. There was a large entry of fat cattle but in the fat sheep section, there was a short supply, the smallest for some time. Fat lamb values finned on recent rates bur the fat pig prices showed no alteration. Store sheep had an average yarding, with wethers in good supply. The market was much firmer for all classes. Wethers improved by Is 6d to 2s a •head. Values wore: —Good , four and six toothed Romney wethers, 25s 6d to 275; medium good four and six toothed Romney wethers, to 25s 6d; good four and six toothed halfbred wethers, to 25s 6d; ordinary halfbred, to 20s 3d; backward, to 15s; good halfbred ewe hoggets (woolly), to 29s 3d; medium Corricdnlo ewe hoggets (woolly), to 20s; halfbred wether ewe hoggets (woolly), to 20s lid; halfbred wether owe hoggets, 15s 7d to 18s 2d; small halfbred wether ewe hoggets, to 14s; sound-mouthed ewes with lambs (woolly), 15s lOd to 17s; good 2 and 3tooth halfbred lambs, to 25s 9d; Merino wethers (woolly), 7s to 11s 3d. A total of 511 fat lambs were entered, the yarding being much smaller than at recent sales. The market was firmer by up to 1h 6d a head. Over a keen sale, the average per lb was 9d to 91 d. Fat sheep had a small entry of only about 2500 head and prices for all classes increased on late rates by up tn 2s a head. Extra prime shorn weth' ers realised to 37s 7d; prime wethers, 32s to 34s 6d; medium, 27s 6d to 31s (id; light, 22s 6d to 275; extra prime shorn ewes, 30s 6cl to 33s Id; prime, 25s to 29s 6d; ordinary, 22s to 245; light, 19s to 21s 6d; woolly wethers, tc 38s 7d; best woolly owes, to 39s ’od.

Fat cattle had a total entry of 400 head, with no "outside” cattle. Prices improved on those of last week’s sale by up to £1 a head for all classes, especially the primer sorts. Best medium-weight prime beef (per lOOlbs) 'made from 45s to 48s; good mediumweight prime beef, from 4?s to 455; heavy steer beef, 4,1 s to 44h; good cow beef, to 425; secondary, 34s to 375; light and rough, to 335; store steers, to £22 17s 6d; heavy prime steers, £lB 10s to £2l 10s; medium-weight prime steers, £l7 15s to £l9; ordinary, £l4 to £l7 ss; light, £ll to £.13; extra prime heifers, to £l7 2s (id; prime, £l4 15s to £lO ss; ordinary, £l3 to £l4. 10s; light, £7 10s to £l2; extra, prime cows, ■to £IS 7s 6d; prime, £l4 10s to £.lO 10s; medium, £l2 5s to £l4 ss; light and aged, £8 to £l2.

There was n small entry of vealers, with few small calves forward, it was a good sale, with little quotable change in recent, values. The top price was £7 10s. Good vealers made from £l to £5; best culvers, 45s m 60s; ami others, from 30s to 31s. Store cattle had a larger entry than usual and met with keen competition. Prices were on.a par with recent rates. Two-year-old steers made £8 ss; best fresh cows, up to £8 ss; 18-months heifers, £5 10s 6d to £6 ss; and yearling steers, £5 13s 6d to £B. Bulls wore in good demand at prices up to £7 13s 6d.

A small yarding of dairy cattle of average quality came forward. Prices were much the same as those ruling last week. Values were: Best second and third calvors, to £33 30s; others, £8 to £l2 10s; good heifers, £ll to £l2 10s; others, £5 to £lO 10s. Fat pigs had a large entry and met with a regular sale. Both porkers and baconers sold on a par with last week's prices but porkers cased toward the close of the sale. Values were: Choppers, 30s to £6 6s; baconers, £4 5s to £4 16s 6d (average price per lb 6id to 7’d); porkers, 42s to 63. s (average price per lb 7Jd to 84d). Store pigs had a medium entry and prices showed a decline of up to 4s on last week’s sale. Values \vcre: KloreSj 28s to 425; slips, 22s to 24s 6il; woaners, 10s to 21s 6d.
