BRITAIN HANDICAPPED.
DEAD WEIGHT OF WAR DEBTS. THIRD ON LIST OF EXPORTING COUNTRIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. In the course of an interview, the Hon. W. H. Triggs, M L.C., who has just returned from a trip abroad, emphasised the tremendous handicap with which Britain is struggling in the load of debt which she faces, as a result of the w r ar and debt settlement. Instead of being first as an exporter, sue is now third, America and Germany being ahead of her. lie was impressed with the advantages enjoyed by France and Germany in regard to loans through the depreciation of the franc and the markj‘but in the conclusion of the inti ryiew he said that his desire was not to disparage these countries, nor to criticise the MacDonald Government, but to impress on New Zealanders, with all the earnestness in his power, that the Mother Country wa? labouring under ‘great -'burdens, and that, to meet the terrific competition with which she is faced, she needs more than ever the sympathy and active support of every loyal member of the Empire.
