TWO OTHERS RESCUED WITH DIFFICULTY.

Two schoolgirls, Thelma Riley, aged 15, and Elvy Hamilton, aged 9, were drowned in the surf at Thirroul, on the' South Coast. Two others in the same party were rescued at the point of exhaustion.
The tragedy was relieved only by the heroism of the beach inspector, Jack Rankin, who, after jescuing the first two, searched for the others. Ho had t-o be dragged forcibly from the water and needed medical attention.
