ABATTOIR KILLINGS.
MORE SHEEP AND GALVES, BUT PEWER PICKS. PROSPECT OF INCREASED BUSINESS. The report by the Abattoir Manager (Mr H. 11. Townsend) to tho Boroogk Council last evening, for the month, of November, showed that there was an increase of 29 head of stock slaughtered as compared with the preceding month. Tho comparative statement was as follows: — Octobe*. £Tov. Cows 19 88 Bullocks and' heifers 9& 83 Sheep and lambs .. .. 568 638 Pigs .. 404 351 Calves .. ? 82 Totals 1003 1122 The, separate figures of sheep and lambs last month .were 516 and 122 respectively. Of the total number of stock, two cows were condemned, and two partly condemned, two pigs wer* condemned and 19 partly condemned, and two sheep were condemned, and two partly condemned. The total amount of fees charged for tho month was £129 6s 10d. The Town Clerk stated that the fee 3 were about 38s less in the aggregate than in the previous month. Cr. Parker asked if it was correct that two more butchers were coming to kill at Levin. The Clerk said he had heard thac three were coming, but they had not so far turned up. The report -was adopted.
