VITAL WORDS ACCIDENTALLY MISSED GIVE SPEECH WEONG IMPORT. HINDENBURG'S VINDICATION. (Received Sunday, 5.5 p.m.) PARIS, Oct. 1. M. Briand, the French Foreign Minister, told members of Cabinet a curious story based on a conversation with Dr. Stresemann in reference to President von HindebUrg's Tanneburg speech. He said the original draft shows that Dr. Stresemann 's speech contained a sentence in which it was emphasised that von Hindenburg was speaking in his own name, not as President of the German Republic, but as an aged soldier to meet his God. This vital sentence was cut out when the speech was delivered without Dr. Stresemann being informed.
