An agreement was drawn up and the visitor then produced a cheque for £1571, with a plausible excuse to account for the extra £7l, He was handed a cheque for £7l as his change and made himself so agreeable that his victim also handed him five handbags as a'present for his wife.

The cheque for £1571 came back from the bank marked “Signature differs,” Nothing more has been heard of the handbags. _____
