TURKISH TALES OF VICTORY
Received this day, 8.45 a.m. Athens, January 29
A communique from Smyrna confirms the report that Edhem Bey’s force of 2000 Turks surrendered to the Greeks. Nearly half the officers and men entered the Greek lines just when Turkish propagandist stories of Nationalistvictories were gaining credence. It is supposed Edhem unkindly selected the moment for surrender in order to inflict the most serious damage on Nationalist prestige. In the opinion of British observers the reports of Nationalist military strength ar© mere bluff. ir Tf -q—f—
