BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The usual lortiUtfJtil.v mosHiug of the, Levin Borough Co unci! was J held last evening. Present: The Mayor (in the chair), ill' Bryson, Crs Bull, liyder, Parker, Matheson, Lancaster Broome and Mackenzie. The Town Clerk (Mr B. 11. Grdener) and the Borough Overseer (Mr H. Channings) were also present. THE DOMAINS. The Town Clerk reported to the Levin Domain Board that he had arranged with the natives, after consulting with the County Engineer and with his consent to carry out the clearing of the Hokio stream.

An apology for absence was received from Cr Aitken. The Overseer said that on the Levin Domain he hail had the hedges and trees cut. He recommended, owing to the labour shortage, that the drainage work be carried out by contract. Cr Parker moved that tenders be called for the work under the usttal conditions. Councillors generally considered the work should be hurried on while the ground was dry. The motion was carried.

The Town Clerk, as Secretary, read, thejannual report w r hich slio- . wed tEat receipts, including balance brought forward, totalled £109 2s lOd. The expenditure was small, leaving a credit of £91 7s 7d. Proposed work, including the golf links, was estimated to cost £80. The report and balance sheet were adopted. Cr Matheson asked when it. was proposed to start the golf links. Cr Bull pointed out that it would be necessary to sow grass seed for the putting greens. The Secretary read the previous correspondence on the matter, including the opinion of* the Wellington professional golfer on the suitability of the course for golfing. It was decided to push on with the preparation of tlie course. The annual report of tlie Levin Park Domain Board, stated the work for the year was the general up-keep of the Domain. A small credit balance of £4 10s shown. Sitting as a Scenic Eeserve Board, the Secretary reported that for the first time in its history, the Domain had been used for a picnic by the Methodist Sunday School and all who attended were delighted with its scenic beauties. Cr Lancaster drew attention to the presence of blackberry in the reserve and the Overseer was instructed to remove this noxious w6ed. - _ i j The annual report stated that routine work was carried out during the year. There was a credit balance of £5 5s sd.

GENERAL

Mr H. H. Cork, lion, secretary of the School Swimming Tournament Committee, wrote asking- for the use of the baths for the Tournament to be held on Wedn'esday, February 13, and inviting the Mayor and Councillors to be present. The application was granted. , ~ Cr Parker drew attention to the condition of a watertable in Durham street. The Town Clerk said he had sent a letter to the Health Inspector in Wellington, asking him to make a visit to various places in Levin and'this would be included. Accounts were passed ior payment a,s follows : General account, £131 6s 7d ;gas department, =£173 lis Id; and cemetery account, £1 9s.
