AUCKLAND LIVE STOCK MARKET.
Mr Alfred Buckxand’s report for the week ending ,7th February : At the Havmarket, on Satiirdav last, fodder was without alteration in value. Medium draught horses met with a fair inquiry at- full rates. The tmbrokienhorse stocK sold at low prices; they were of average strength, three and four years old, and brought from £6 to £lO each. _ Store cattle have.during the past week sold more freely, the rain having increased the number of buyers. There was a full market both at PapakuBemuera, and a free demand for all that offered. Fat cattle were of prime quality, and better prices ruled than for the past two weeks; about 60 head were sold.
Fat sheep were in average supply, with no alteration in value. . Very few lambs were offered. Inferior sheep were at low rates, aged half-bred ewes bringing 4s 6d each, and large-framed three-rourths-bred ewes, 10s each; half-bred wethers, Bs. A pen of. large and well-woolled ewes and ewe lambs, 21s each.’ A large number of coarse store pigs met with an indifferent sale. Well-fed porkers were in request at advanced prices. At the wool-sale held at the Hayirarket yesterdaY there was a very limited attendance. 62 bales, 26 hags, and 72 sheepskius were pitched, of which number 14- hales were withdrawn. Prices were from Id to ft less than last sale. Washed wools brought from 9d to 10Jd sa- ft. Wools in (pease, fid to 6d jp-.ft. Locks and pieces, from Id to 3d. Full-woolled sheepskins, 2s each. Most or the wool offered was badly got up, and of middling quality only.
Messrs. Wm. Hunter & Co.’s report for the week ending 7th February:—
We have to report that on Saturday last there was a fair humber of horses; the greater part "were sold at late rates; good hacks sold at good prices.
Newmarket Sale.—On Monday there was a fair number of cattle; nearly aU were sold. Dairv cows sold from £8 to £10; backward springers, from £6 10s to £7 10s.
Store Stock.— • here were very few in the market; two-year-old steers, from £5 12s 6d to £6. yearlings, from £3 to £3los; two-year-old heifers, from £5 2s 6d to £slos; calves. £2 each, Fat Cattle.—There was a fair supply, which sold better than on the previous week; all were sold at from 30s to 35s 100 ft. Sheep Market.—There was a large number in; nearly all in were sold— half-breds, from 20s to 26s 94; merinos, from 16s 6dto.9s6d; lambs, from 8s to 10s 6d each.
Pig Market.—There was a large number in: all m were sold at good prices, Otabuhu Sale,—There was a fair supply of cattle; nearly all in were sold; two-year-old heifers, 2<? m 123 6d; calves, from £1 13s to £2; working bullocks, £ 115 s each. There was a large number of pigs; all in. were sold.
WELLINGTON LIVE STOCK MARKET. The Evening Post, 6th February, reports as follows :
The usual Hutt Market was held yesterdav. and largely attended by visitors from town and country, amongst whom, however, were but few buyers;. several lots of stock and cattle were put up, but the prices realized were not satisfactory. Horses sold from 30s to £l4 and £ls; sheep averaged 5s 6d each, and prices for cattle varied from £5 up to £l4.
