At the auction sale held at Waiuku on Thursday there was a larger muster of stock than in any previous sale, full attendance of buyers, and the prices obtained were in advance of those ruling at markets nearer Auckland, particularly for young cattle. 137 head were sold at the auction, and a mob of 60 steers by private sale. Merino ewes in lamb brought 10s, and with lambs at side, 12s 6d each. The sheep fair held at Itemuera on "Wednesday was very numerously attended. About 2000 sheep were catalogued, and with the Exception of about 30 rams, all sold to the highest bidder. The season is not a favorable one for the disposal of rams, and unless they were very choice animals, the greater number of them realised butcher’s prices only Two English imported Leicester rams, full mouths, brought £l3 15s and £ls respectively, aud about 20 of the best hog rams offered realised prices varying from £4lss to £9 each. At Itemuera, on Thursday, the attendance was less than usual, consequent on the sheep sale the previous day. There was an average muster of store cattle, about 80 head, and prices were fully equal to liist week’s. Dairy cows were rather better worth. Fat cattle were in moderate supply, about 50 head. Last week’s rate was barely sustained. Fat sheep market was very bare, and prices advanced 2s the head for choice quality. Lambs were of medium quality only; they brought from 9s to 16s each.
