FROCKS AT THE RACES

Bright Spots of Colour in Accessories None but ths bravest and keenest of racegoers ventured out for the first day of the winter meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club at Hastings, yesterday, when a very piercing wind brought forth the thickest of tweed coats and the warmest of furs. Browns and navy blues, always favourite winter shades were prominent for winter coats, though several Gloucester greens and inky blues also found favour. Fur collars were worn well up round the neck though many of the latest tailored coats fasten high and have their fur trimming in the form of jabots cuffs or pockets. Feather mounts or quills trimmed almost every hat and in many instances a cherry quill gave a touch of colour to a dark ensemble while a navy mount drew attention to lighter greys. Among those seen on the lawn were : Mrs G. D. Beatson. wife of the president, who wore an ensemble of brown and fawn checked tweed with fox turs and a fawn hat. Mrs T. V. Morriu wore a dark fur coat over her black ensemble and a black veLur hat with touches of white. -Mrs J. N. Lowry, navy tailored coat with long reVers of navy striped with white and a navy hat. Mrs H. Peacock, rustic brown coat with high collar of arctic fox and a brown halo hat. Mrs E. Loisel (Gisborne), handsome coat of mink fur and a brown felt hat. Mrs P F.
