SINGLE POOL
Betting at Hastings Meeting COMMITTEE’S DECISION • For some months now there has been a great deal of discussion in this dis trict upon the relative merits of the twj betting systems, win mid place and the single pool (75 and 25. Many letters favouring each system were published in the “Hawke’s Bay Herald’’ and the debate created much Interest. Recently a petition signed by a very large proportion of owners was placed before the executive committee of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club requested that the old system (single pool) ot rotalisator speculation be reverted to. This the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club decided to leceive then, but the president, Mr G. D. Bcatson, later requested that a deputation from the petititinners wait on the club to express valid reasons why the win-and place system should be discarded in favour of the single pool. At the monthly meeting of the H.B. J.C. committee yesterday afternoon this important matter was one of the main items on the agenda-paper. Messrs A. A. Small, H. Jones au.l Oswald Nelson (prime mover in the campaign for reversion to the single pool), representing the owners' petition, were met by lhe committee, who gave them a very patient hearing. After deliberation a vote was taken by the committee, with the result that single pool will operate at the forthcoming winter meeting next Thursday and Saturday in Hastings. So the win and place has been discarded.
