July *24 was fixed tentatively as the date foi the annual ball. Iu connection with the condition ot the school buildings, and the urgent ueed for the provision of a new school, tho headmaste. presented the following special report:— “1 thiuk that the great need here is a new school It is not so much that the present buildings are in disrepair, as that it is not suited for its purpose. It is so constructed as to provide the maximum ot discomfort with the minimum sunlight and fresh air for the pupils. With the present heatiug system it is quite impossible to warm tho rooms, and the ventilation system and whole design is faulty. “The fact that several of the classrooms have to accommodate two teachers and their classes, militates strongly against satisfactory work, whilst the shape of the rooms makes it extremely difficult to work efficiently. Further, one corner of the iutaut room is below the level of the street, this tending to dampness, which is very unhealthy for the pupils, particularly ones so young. Lastly the fact that the school is practically on two streets is not conductive to quiet and efficient work.”
