Junior Section for This Year’s Festival
ANNUAL MEETING
The annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Drama League was held in Hastings last night. The president, Mr Cecil Duff, presided.
A warm vote of thanks was accorded Airs W. A. Whitlock for her work in connection with the national semifinal and final festivals in Hastings last year, and with the drama school at Havelock North recently. . Mr J. 0. Kelsey said that Airs Whitlock had given excellent service a. the organiser of the above-mentioned activities, and that, her efforts bad borne very good fruit.
Other speakers affirmed this statement and she was roundly applauded. The following officers were elected for tho year :—■ Patron, Mr E. J. Herrick; president, Air Cecil Duff; vice-presidents, Alessrs H. W. C. Baird, W. G. Wood, A. Giorgi, G. A. Aladdison, AT. S. Spence, Lachlan Alaclean, I l ’. AV. Ward, W, G. Wood, I l '. W. Tickncr, A. E. Rcnouf, Alesdames W. A. Whitlock, R. Tod and J. B. Campbell; executive committee, Messrs A. E. Renouf, R. B. G. Chadwick, A. C. Cunningham, Airs W. A. AVhitlock, Alessrs A. B. Maxwell and 11. H. Harding; secretarytreasurer, Air J. 0. Kelsey; auditor, Air P. J. Priest. Airs AVhitlock said she considered it advisable to have a junior festival in i conjunction with tho annual festival for senior societies. She cited the ex cellent performance given last year by pupils of the Napier Girls’ High School, and mentioned tho high praise received by the girls. It was stated that Woodford, lona and Hereworth schools probably would enter teams, and that in all probability tho Napier Boys’ and the Napier Girls’ High Schools and tho Napier Intermediate School would participate It was resolved to introduce a junior section to the Hawke’s Bay festival this year, attendance at school to be the qualification.
The Hawke’s Bay Drama League festival this year will be held earlier than previously. Tho North Island semifinal will be held at Palmerston North on August 31 and September 1, and the national final festival on September 4 at Timaru. Eor this reason delegates at the meeting of the Hawke's Bay Drama League last night recommended to tho executive that tho festival in this province should be held on Wednesday and Thursday in tho first week in August.
