SALT-WATER BATHS
Visitors Take Curative Treatment at Napier An increase by 200 per cent, in the revenue collected from Napier’s hot salt-water baths during last month, when compared with the takings for the corresponding'month of 1935, gives convincing proof of the rapidly increasing popularity of the baths. Last month’s revenue totalled £27 6/-, representing 654 baths, as against £8 17/-, 219%aths, for May of 1985. Of the total number of baths taken. 338 were for visitors from all parts of New Zealand. They seemed to have a particular attraction for visitors from Wellington, for 88 baths were taken by them alone. It is interesting to note that more baths were taken by visitors than by local people. The following table compares the number of baths taken by local people and visitors for May of this year and last year 1933 1930 Total number taken 219 654 Taken by visitors 84 338 Taken by local people ... 135 316 Visitors took hot salt-water baths at. Napier from the following towns and cities, the figures in parentheses representing the number of baths taken:— Wellington (88), Hastings (47), Palmerston North <34), Masterton 127), Featherston (15), Apiti (12), Hamilton (12), Feilding (12), Takapu (14), Wa nganui (10). Whangarei (4), Dargavillo (3), I’ctone (8), Dannevirke (6), Ekctahuna (4), Auckland (6), Christchurch (3), llawera (2), Waipukurau (2), Gisborne (4), Eltbam (2), lipper Hutt (3), Waipawa (3) Wairoa (3), Dunedin (1), Waitikai (1), Bay View (3). Woodville (5), Havelock North (5), Taradale (4). In addition, tour baths were taken by visitors from England.
