Man Injures Hand While Chopping Wood

(From Our Own Correspondent) WAIPUKURAU, May 31. Mr J. Brown, caretaker of the Waipukurau District High School, had the misfortune to suffer a severe injury to hjs left hand while chopping wood at the school yesterday. Medical attention was required aud Mr Brown will be off work for about a fortnight. VITAL STATISTICS. The vital statistics for Waipukurau for the month of May, against thpse of May last year, are as follow: Births, 8 (3); deaths 6 (1); marriages 2 (1). CAR OVERTURNED. A saloon “baby” car driven by Mr B. Johanson, of Waipukurau, overturned on Saturday afternoon near the top of the Pukeora hill when he was driving from the Waipukurau Golk Links to Waipukurau. Mr Johanson was not injured, but the car was slightly damaged. He was able to drive home after the car had been righted by a party of footballers returning to Waipukurau. BOXING CLUB YEAR. From the annual report of the Waipukurau Boxing Club it would appear that the club has had a successful year. Local boxers have won 41 and drawn 4 of the bouts in which they have taken part. A. Chapman was the middle weight champion of Hawke’s Bay and J. Ferguson rnnner-up for the welter-weight championship. Thirty-two cups were donated and awarded by the club and its supporters during the year.
