The Belgian Consul at Sydney !i::■< been instructed to notify the Ccsumvnwealth of the denunciation on Juno ’ of the provisional agreements fixing imports of cereals and frozen meat into Belgium. The decision has been taken as the result of Australia increasing duties on cotton goods, silk tissue and lubricants.
Unless negotiations with the Commonwealth are successful Australian products will be banned from Belgium after August 8. The Minister in charge of Trade Treaties, Sir Henry Gullett, said that the Belgian Government’s action in terminating the trade agreement with Australia must be based on misunder standing, because Belgium would gain on the whole by the new duties.
