Prince of Orange’s Hurdle Victory ONEWHETU’S CORNWALL B.v Telegraph.—Press Association. AUCKLAND, May 30. The Auckland Racing Club’s Great Northern steeplechase meeting opened at Ellerslie to-day in glorious weather. The track was in splendid order. There was a good attendance The totalisator handled £44,251, against £48,283 10/last year (when only seven races were on the programme) a decrease of <£4032 JO/-. The comparison is qualified by the fact that the first day of the meeting last year was the lute King George’s birthday, a lull holiday. To-day’s Great Northern Hurdle race was sensational. Six horses fell, and Scotch Nation broke a leg in front ot the stands, when in a leading position, having to be destroyed immediately on, the course. As a result of the falls, the riders Trillo (Benighted), Beale (Jolly Beggar), Carroll (Contact), and McGregor (Master Musk), were injured, although not seriously. This race was won easily by Prince ol Orange in the record time of 4.41. The dividend was nearly a score. Results:—

Saltspray and Curlew Were together over the last fence, but Saltspray fell and Curlew went on tu win by live lengths from Kanapa, with Teddy Boy three lengths away third. Sporting Song was fourth. Time, 3.12 3-5.
