Help for Abyssinians
(To the Editor.) Sir, —If another voice in support can help in any way Miss Preston-Thomas’, suggestion of sending assistance to the stricken Abyssinians through the Red Cross, 1 should like to do at least that much. The terrible disorganisation only makes the need more urgent. The situation is so vividly presented and the plan of action so clearly stated that there is no need to add more, except that the need being so very urgent money would be more quickly eifective than supplies. I was told that for its size Hastings contributed the largest amount in Ne* Zealand for the Red Cross relief of Indian earthquake sufferers in Baluchistan. There was not then a tenth of the destruction nor a hundredth of the ghastly suffering there is now. Will Hastings respond as it has done before, and once more lead all New Zealand* in a work of mercy?—Yours, etc., A. M. ISDALB. Hastings, May 5. t. 139.
