It is intended to school him over brush fences when he arrives at the Waikato and Auckland meetings. He is a good jumper and stays, so ho may find this department easier than hurdling. Davistock and Tahurangi finished a neck in front of Refresher at the conclusion of a mile gallop at New Flymouth. Davistock and Refresher made the pace, with Tahurangi two or three lengths away, but Tahurangi finished solidly. Davistock’s showing was a big improvement on his previous display and he put plenty of dash into his work. Refresher was conceding weight to the other two and his effort was n creditable one. * * » Jolly Beggar is favourite in the South Island for the Great Northern Hurdles. The family is not unknown to Auckland, for Fiery Cross, winner of the Auckland Cup in 1917, was a

brother to Glencross, the dam of Jolly Beggar. In repose Fiery Cross was a I very plain horse, but in action he looked the part of a good galloper. bo with Jolly Beggar, who is expected to do very well this winter. •ft ■ifr w Boughal, who is engaged in the Flying Handicap aLHawera to-morrow, is working well at Te Rapa and last week was responsible for the best gallop of the morning. He is reported to be in fine condition for racing. Boughal won the Flying at Hawera 12 months ago, scoring an all-the-way victory over Cawbeen and British Columbia, and he will probably be one of the fancied runners to-morrow. a a * One of the most consistent gallopers of late is Prostration, who has had three second placings in his last throe starts, says a southern exchange. He ran a great race when he acted as runner-up to Coneertpitch in the Great Easter Handicap at Riccarton reently, and his winning turn is just about due. This horse figures in the Mcßae Cup at the Egmont meeting, and will get good support. Prostration has also been entered for the Cornwall, King George, and York Handicaps at the Great Northern meeting.
