AUXILIARY HOSPITAL
To Be Established at North Shore, Auckland By Telegraph—Press Association, AUCKLAND, May 5. ,A decision to establish au auxiliary hospital at North Shore, on the board’s endowment site at Northcote, was made at a special meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board. Details of the proposed hospital will be determined at an early date so that they can be submitted to the Health Department. The site, which consists of about 80 acres, is situated in the centre of Northcote. The board made its decision after it had heard a deputation from the Northcote, Birkenhead and Takapuna Borough Councils and the Waitemata County Council. The Mayor of Northcote, Mr R. Martin, who led the deputation, said it was estimated that of 800 patients from the area now treated annually in the Auckland Hospital, 75 per cent, could receive suitable attention in an auxiliary hospital on their own side of the harbour. Major cases would continue to be transferred and treated at the base as at present. The board then decided to establish a hospital on North Shore.
