Six adults were drowned this morning at the seaside resort of Davietown, near Woy Woy, when two brand-new sedan cars containing eight persons ran off the end of the jetty and plunged into what is known as Brisbane Water. Two occupants smashed the car window and managed to escape. • The six trapped, who perished, were: Mr and Mrs David Missingham, Miss Irene Curtain, a lady friend of Mr and Mrs Missingham; Mr George Boulton, of Camperdown; Mrs Lois Aitcheson, of Manly; Mr Hunter Yuill, of Mos-

The two who escaped were: Mr Otto Lingham, of Manly, and Miss Evo Stevveds, of Mosman. Mr Yuill was driving the leading car. Visibility was bad owing to heavy mist. He failed to notice that the road ended at the water’s edge, from which projected a jetty. Ho attempted to stop, but was too late and the car following, driven by Mr Missingham, collided with the rear of Mr Yuill’s car. Both plunged 12 feet into sharkmfested water. Mr Lingham and Miss Stevveds, who were riding in Mr Yuill’s car, were rescued by the local postmaster and his son, who heard a woman’s screams and put out in a rowing boat Both cars, with the bodies, were raised to-day by means of a block and tackle.
