GIANT SHIP IN DOCK
The Queen Mary Undamaged BIG STREAM OF VISITORS CBS3[aJtA\ ivioipo nstlHU (Received 30, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, March 28. The giant liner Queen Mary is now at rest on a cradle in the graving dock at Southampton. A preliminary examination has already confirmed that, apart from scratched paint, neither the plates nor the propellers suffered damage when, during the difficult mnnoeuv ring of the huge vessel down the narrow channel from her fitting-out basin on the Clydeside, she grounded twice on mud-banks. While the Queen Mary was at Southampton Water yesterday her captain Sir Edgar Britten, exchanged courtesies with the liner Bremen and other ships on the Atlantic service.. Immense crowds gathered to watch the docking operations, and a continuous stream of visitors anxious to get a sight of the new ship are expected at Southampton during next week. Rail and road excursions have been arranged from all over the country.
