WAIKOKOPU HARBOUR
Meeting of Two Boards (Be Telegnph-Preas Association.! WAIROA, March 30. On Saturady the most important meeting yet held in connection with harbour matters took place at Waikokopu. Representatives of the Wairoa and Gisborne Harbour Boards met to consider a proposal to amalgamate the two boards for the purpose of developing Waikokopu as the main port of the whole of the East Coast. Strong arguments were placed before the visitors by the Wairoa representatives, who submitted a report from Mr Holderness, engineer to the Auckland Harbour Board, that for an expenditure of £60,000 there could be established a harbour to accommodate Home vessels, thus cutting out lighterage and considerable additional handling charges. It was stated that for a further reasonable amount accommodation could be provided for all Home boats at present using tho East Coast. After hearing the Wairoa side of the case the meeting adjourned to enable the Gisborne delegates to place th" matters discussed before their board, and after that a further meeting will be held *to consider the Gisborne board’s decision.
