THE GAME OF GOLF

Season Opened by Hastings Club OVER 160 PLAYERS The official opening of the Hastings Golf Club took place on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. Over 160 players, including visitors from the Napier, Maraenui, Parkvale, Havelock North, Waipawa, Waimarama and other clubs, took part in the mixed Canadian foursome match, which was won by Miss June Budd and V. Little with a score of 63 net. Considering the time of the year, the course was in excellent order, and the benefit already derived from the watering scheme recently carried out was clearly visible in the state of the greens. The catering was very efficiently done by Airs Wall, who is to be congratulated on her excellent handling of such a large number of players. The following are the results of the match:—

Members are requested to arrange their own partners for Hie mixed Canadian foursome to be held on Thursday afternoon next. MARAENUI CLUB First Medal Round The first medal round of the 1936 season of the Maraenui Club was played on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions overhead, but, the course was very heavy as a result of the recent rains. In the A grade a tie resulted, P. F. Martin and A. C. McKenzie returning cards showing a net 78, while F. Ormond, with a nett 86, proved to be the winner of the B grade. The event set down for the coming week-end is another medal round, and players will arrange their own partners, the draw having been cancelled owing to the opening of the season at the Napier Club.
