OTANE NOTES

Excursion to Napier From Our Own Correspondent. OTANE, Feb. 18. Although weather conditions did not look at all promising on Friday morning a large number of parents and children travelled to Napier by the special excursion train. Napier for once did not live up to its reputation for sunny weather the day being dull, with light showers at intervals during the afternoon. Nevertheless, conditions were not unpleasant and most of the excursionists appeared to spend a very enjoyable day. The Borough Council and the Thirty Thousand Club, as in previous years, generously provided hot water and milk, also buns and bath tickets for the children. A number of children availed themselves of the opportunity to qualify for swimming certificates, the tests being carried out under the supervision of the headmasters of the Waipawa and Otane schools. CRICKET MATCH. On Saturday afternoon the competition cricket match between Ongaonga and Otane was concluded. Otane made a very poor stand in their second inning® scoring only 39 runs and leaving Ongaonga the winners of the match by ■lO runs. NORM \l. SCHOOL HOI RS, This morning school resumed the normal hours nml the children generally, now that, the novelty .ot the ball-holiday has worn off, will be pleased to be back to the usual ’school routine. The Otane secondary pupils have derived little, if any benefit from the enforced halfholiday as I hey were obliged to wait in Waipawa until the first available homeward train at 3.45 p.m. SLIGHT FROST. The weather which has been more or less unsettled for over a week has now cleared, a slight frost this morning being. succeeded by a day of glorious sunshine. The rain has wrought wonders with the vegetation and the growth of the grass during the past few days has been little short of marvellous. PERSONAL NOTES. Airs Fisk. Seatoun, is the guest, of her daughter, Mr® D. Howitt.
