DRURY LANE LOSES £51,000
A loan of £21,000 from the Barnato Brothers appears in the accounts to June last of the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London. These show a total loss for the year of £51,000. Drury Lane has not had a financial success since “Cavalcade.” The American musical play “Wild Violets” ran for a considerable time, but lost money. Its two successors, “Ball at the Savoy” and “Three Sisters,” ran only for two two and four months respectively.
