Late Mr. W. A. MacFarlane

PUBLIC’S LAST RESPECTS

The widespread affection in which the late Mr. W. A. MacFarlane wao neld was fully exemplified when a large number ot his friends and associates in various walks ot life assembled at St. Andrew’s Church, and alter, wards at the Havelock North Cemetery, on Saturday afternoon to puy their last respects to his memory. Among the very large number ol people present were representatives of many local bodies, sporting organisations, and business firms, with which the deceased had been associated, end the tunning community wo* well represented.

The pall-bearers were the deceased’o son, Mr. John MacFarlane, his nephew, Mr. Janies MacFarlane, Mr. Alex Miller, Mr. Lachlan McLean. Mr. Edmund Lyons, and Mr. W. Whyte. The funeral was conducted by the Rev. J. A Asher, who delivered an eloquent memorial sermon in tribute to the late Mr. MacFarlane's fine character, and. as was appropriate to the memory or so fine and staunch a Scot, a lament was played at the graveside by a piper in Highland regalia.
