LABOUR CONDITIONS

Hours and Wages in Japan LEAGUE INVESTIGATION (Received 3, 10.45 a.m.) KOBE, April 2. The impending visit of M. Maurette from the Geneva Labour Office is attracting wide attention, since it is expected that he will investigate hours and conditions with a view to reporting to the June conference. In Japan at present, a 47-hour week is prevalent, with 60 in some industries. It is understood that any proposal to reduce hours will be stoutly resisted.

Japanese delegates to Geneva are instructed to withdraw should cheapness, dumping and labour conditions be criticised.
