HASTINGS BOROUGH AFFAIRS

MEETING OF THE COUNCIL. ELECTRIC TOWN CLOCKS The regular meeting of the Hastings Borough Council was held last evening the Mayor (Mr G. F. Roach) presiding. Others present were Crs. R. Henderson, P. M. Cohr, P. Loach, C. H. Slater, G. W. McCormick, T. Donovan and J. Simmons. Leave of absence was granted Cr. R. Baker, An extract from a Wanganui paper was forwarded by W. Littlejohn and Son, Wellington, regarding a proposition to install an electrical system of public clocks, and inquiring whether tho council was prepared to go into the matter of clocks for the town, in which case they would be pleased to send a representative to fully explain the system.—The matter was referred to the Electrical Committee. The Jubilee Institute for the Blind wrote torwardmg circular matter in connection wjth the goods they have for sale, and soliciting orders in view of the depression and the reduction of their income owing to the loss of the Government subsidy, and the Jailing off in subscriptions, and the lowering of interest rates.—Received.

The District Engineer of Railways wrote regarding the proposal that the department should control the St. Aubyn street railway crossing, advising that the Tetter had been forwarded to the District Traffic Manager, who would deal with the matter.—Received.
