ST. PETER’S GIRLS’ CLLJ. (Own Correspondent.) At a meeting attended by between twenty and thirty girls it was decided to resuscitate the St. Peter’s Girls’ Club, and the following officers were elected: — President, Rev W T. Drake; vice-presidents, Mesdames Drake and Woods and Aliss C. Jull; committee, Misses G. Grenside J. Rathbone, M. Wills, M. King and G. Collett; secretary, Miss M. M’Lean. A social was subsequently held. Music for the dances was supplied by Miss King, the Misses M’Sweeney. and Mrs Drake, recitations were given by Misses Wills and J. Booker, and songs by Misses I. Rust and Hurst. A musical competition was won by Miss Grenside. TEACHERS’ INSTITUTE. Mr J. A. Lockhart presided at the monthly meeting of the Centra] H.B. branch N.Z.E.I. It was decided to reduce the current year’s subscription from 26s to 235. The arrangement of the winter sports competitions, football and basketball, were left to the staff of the Waipukurau school. Footballs provided by the H.B. Rugby Union are available at the secretary’s office, Waipukurau, on payment of sixpence for postage. Mr J. Reidy was congratulated on his appointment to the staff of the Napier Boys’ High School. A letter of appreciation is to be forwarded to Mrs Preston, who has retired from the service. Mr Hall, recently appointed to the charge of the Tikokino school, was welcomed as a member. Last year Mr Hall was president of the Poverty Bay branch. Mr J. A. Lockhart, delegate from the branch to the recent conference in Wellington, gave an interesting resume of the business transacted, and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. Gilbert and Sullivan provided the subject of entertainment and instruction at the monthly meeting of the Waipawa Women’s Institute, at which some 60 members were present. The charming little song, “Tit Willow” served as an excellent community song.

Mrs. Jas Bibby read a most interesting sketch on the lives of the two great men, both of whom were knighted by Queen Victoria.

Mrs Strang sang Sullivan’s “Lost Chord”, and also “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyee” (“The Gondoliers”! A fireside stool competition was won by Mrs Dalton, with Mrs Parkin second.

In a roll call of favourite songs “Take a Pair of Sparkling Eyes” was the most popular, but there was a very evident fondness for the. old Irish and Scottish ballads, and these were illustrated by two songs sung by Mrs Drake.

A dainty afternoon tea was handed round, the hostesses being Mesdames K. Gollan, Fleming and E. Kittow. Miss Jull was unanimously selected as delegate to the Dominion Conference in Wellington. Five new members were nominated. An impromptu dance brought a delightful afternoon to a close, Mrs Strang officiating at the piona GENERAL NEWS.
