BROKEiM HILL SOUTH, LTD. Wellington, June 14. Cable advice received from Broken Hill South. Ltd., by the New Zealand Stock Exchange Association stated that a dividend of l/s per share had been declared payable at Melbourne on August 12. The books will close on ■Tune 24. The dividend will be paid out of profits derived from sources other than mining at Broken Hill. At present the metal prices operations at the mine are being conducted at a loss. SUCCESSFUL FURNITURE SALE. Messrs H. J. Riddell and Co. report Having held a very successful sale of furniture and sundries in their mart yesterday. There was a large attendance of the public and bidding was keen all through. Sbma of the sales were:—Suite of furniture £l3, divan chair £3 10/-, duchesses £’3, £2 5/- and £1 10/-, Morns chairs £1 15/- and £1 7/6, Tallboy £2 5/-, 3 single bedsteads at 33/6, mattresses £1 10/- and 5 at 13/6, dining chairs 9/-, pictures 4/-, 5/6 to 8/-, and a lot of sundries at full market rates. UNITED BUILDING SOCIETY ANNUAL MEETING IN NAPIER

The second annual meeting of shareholders of the United Investment and Building Society of Hawke’s Bay was held yesterday afternoon, Mr Guv Rochfort presiding. The following annual report for the year ended April 30, 1932, was adopted.—

“In presenting the accounts for the second year of the society’s operations, your committee has to congratulate members on the satisfactory progress the society continues to make. The past year has been a most difficult oue and your committee has had to pursue a most conservative policy to ensure that operations shall not result in serious losses. This policy has been fully justified by the fact that in spite of all the adverse conditions, the year’s operations have resulted in a net profit of £291 17s 6d. Applications for loans totalling £6450 were considered and £2550 granted. “The retiring committee are Messrs E. C. Pirie, A. M. Retemeyer and A J. Turville who have been duly nominated, are eligible and offer themselves for re-election. It will be your duty to elect an auditor. Mr C. Douglas Wilson is the retiring auditor. “Your committee has decided to n:n a dividend of 5 per cent per annum on capital shares and 5 pel - cent on subscription shares, and to write oh half of tho preliminary expenses of £36

The retiring members of the committee, Messrs E. C. Pirie, A. -M. Retemeyer and A. J. Turville were rc-elect-ed by the meeting as was also the auditor, Mr C. Douglas Wilson. Votes of thanks to the secretaries (Messrs A. M. Retemeyer and H. E. Edgley), to the valuers and to the -hairman concluded the meeting.
