The 1 humham gelding has had a good spell, and, alter being hacked about lor u few weeks, lie has made Ins reappearance on the tracks. He looks in uie rough yet, but McDonald hopes to have him ready to win races in the spring.

A Gisborne leport states that far Ao is getting through solid work on the tracks there with a view to competing at the wintei meetings of the Wellington Racing Club and Canterbury Jockey Club. At the lattei meeting it is intended to start him in the Winter Cup, provided that the opinions of his owner and the handicapper coincide -e--gardmg the gelding's ability.

* * w According to an Auckland report, the six-year-old gelding Sir Mond, by Seremond from Lute String, has been sold to Mr Anderson, of Perth, Western Australia It is probable that he will be shipped to Sydney, on route to his new home, by the Marama on Tuesday. Sir Mond originally came from Australia and has raced with varying success in Auckland. Last season he won seven races and £lO3O in stakes, but this season he has not done so well.

The big steeplechaser King’s Counsel is in regular work at Awapuni, and his trainer proposes to race him at Hastings, at Trentham, and at Riccarton. King’s Counsel’s last race was in the Egmont Steeplechase a month ago. Starting favourite he ran very badly, and finished at the tail of the field. His poor form on that occasion was attributed to slight poisoning. He is now said to have completely recovered, and may give a taste of his correct form when next he appears in public.

The Waipawa County Racing Club will bring before the New Zealand Racing Conference at the annual meeting next month a remit recommending the Licensing Committee not to grant a jockey’s license to any person holding a trainer’s license, nor a trainer’s license to anyone halting a jockey’s license.

Maiiawhenua, who won a double at the Great Northern meeting, has been nominated for several races in Australia by his owner-trainer, 11. Rama, and he will leave here next month to fulfil his engagements. Taneriri, another member of the team, who Jias been laid aside during the last couple of weeks, will also be taken across if he makes satisfactory progress in the meantime. Rama will also take with him the rising two-year-old chestnut colt by Acre from Country Picnic, therefore a full brother to Maiiawhenua and a halfbrother to Taneriri. This youngster, who has been working nicely at Ellerslie, has had the name of Horowhenua claimed for him. A. D. Adams, the trainer of Sunny Sky, has gone back to Gisborne, and the daughter of Hunting Song is being pottered about till ho returns to Auckland. Probably a definite decision will then be made as to whether the filly will be taken to Australia for the spring racing there.
