NEW WORLD’S RECORD. LOVELOCK’S BRILLIANT RUN. London, June 11. J. E. Lovelock broke the 37-year-old world record for three-quarters of a mile at the Civil Service sports at Stamford Bridge by doing the distance in 3 min. 2 1-5 secs, after a brilliant run. The track was measured and it was found that Lovelock had run nearly three feet over three-quarters of a mile. The Frenchman, J. Ladoumergue, has done the distance in 3 mins. 3-5 secs., but the International Federation has not yet passed the record. Lovelock started on scratch and finished fourth. NEGRO BREAKS THREE RECORDS AND EQUALS A FOURTH Chicago, Jun e 11. Ralph Metcalf, a Marquette University negro runner, set three new world’s records, running 100 mttres in 10.2 sees., 220 yards in 20.5 secs , and 200 metres in 20.2 secs., and equalled the 100 yards record of 9.5, in the national collegiate trials. He will probably represent the United Stkt.es at the Olympic Games.
