FAREWELL
LOWERING OF CORINTHIC’S FLAG THE THOUGHTS INSPIRED. PORTS WAITING FOR EMPIRE TRADE. (United Press Assoclation-rßy CableCopyright.) (Received 10, 10.30 a.m.) London, Dee. 9. At the ceremonial lowering of the Corinthie’s flag, pri' r to scrapping, Sir Thomas Wiiford commented that the pioneers of Britain’s maritime glory would turn in their graves at the sight of the United Kingdom’s idle ports. If, he said, effect were given to Britain’s unmistakable mood for Empire trade, hundreds of ships would be bursting with cargo between Empire ports. He discounted the fear that such a policy would raise the prices of New Zealand products.
