Beach improvement commit TEE. (Ofrn Correspondent). The fortnightly meeting of the Beach Improvement Committee was held On Tuesday night. Present: Mr. R. H. Florance (chaifmah), Mrs Collison, MrsThorburn, Mrs. Estaugh, Messrs. W. Winchester, A. Gordon, A. E. Estaugh, J. Gerrard, J. Thorburn and Mrs Castle (secretary). Two new members, Messrs. L. Bowen and P. O’Rourke, were elected on the committee, The Rivers Board wrote, stating that they were prepared to carry out the protective work required provided the committee contributed £lO towards the cost.—lt was decided to reply stating that the committee was unable to contribute £lO. ‘ The refreshment stall on the beach is being erected, and Will be ready by the end of the week. Evfery penny made will be spent on beaeh improvements. It was arranged to hold a dance on Boxing night, and a plain and fancy dressball on New Year’s night. TENNIS COURTS OPENED. The Haumoana Tennis Club’s courts were opened for the season last Saturday. Several Visitors were present from other clubs. The earthquake did Some dtimage, but this has been repaired, and the courts are as good as ever. A very pleasant time was spent, afternoon tea being provided by the Ladies’ Committee. The winners of the Yankee tournament were Mrs. R. McCarthy and Mr. Arthur (Twyford). After the games wbre Over Mr. Bedtt took the players on the river in his launch.
