REPAIRS TO HOUSES
'QUAKE RELIEF CLAIMS. PAY-OUT COMMENCED. paying out from the Earthquake Relief 1* und to those who had paid for the cost of reinstating their dwellings after the earthquake is now proceeding in Napier, the first batch of applicants receiving their cheques yesterday. Over 1600 applicants have been received by the committee administering the fund, the total value being 232,284. In view of the large number of applicants who are to be reimbursed, it is not convenient to pay out all at one time and therefore the initial letters of the surname of the applicants have been divided up over the week, a day being allotted to each section' of the alphabet. Yesterday, when the letters A to C were dealt with, there was a steady stream at the Napier office of the committee.
