Gertrude McGonaghy, aged 27, wa< committed for trial by the Christchurel Magistrate, Mr E. D. Mosley, on charges of attempting te commit sui cide and of attempting to murder her four-years-old son, on November 26, by drowning in the Avon.—Press Associa tion. The body of William Newlands, local body secretary was found in the bami room at Palmerston North yesterda morning, under circumstances sugge-‘ ing the possibility of suicide. Decerned, who was well known, was seeretar of the Manawatu River Board, Manawatu Fire Board, Palmerston North Band, Palmerston North Competitions Society and other organisations.
