WOOL CLIP

FIRST WELLINGTON SALE HALFBREDS SLIGHTLY DEARER. PRICES GENERALLY UP TO NAPIER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Dec. 8. The chairman of the Wellington Woolbrokers’ Association, Mr. Hammond, remarked on the good attendance of buyers and on the general competition, but buyers were obviously operating on rigid limits. Low crossbred and inferior wools were more or less neglected. and unfortunately the wool was opened up in not such an attractive -audition as is usual at the Wellington first sale. This centre has been noted for a large percentage of offerings of superfine crossbreds, but so far this season these qualities have not come into the catalogues. The principal demand was for halfbred, and these wools were slightly dearer, and for crossbreds conspicuously, which were on a par as compared with the rates ruling at Napier sale last week. The total wool catalogued was 23,268 bales but there were heavy withdrawals and frequent passing. Yorkshire and the Continent were keen for wools up to their restricted limits. There was a largo attendance of the public and a full bench of buyers. Prices generally appear to be up to those obtained at Napier. THE LONDON AUCTIONS. GOOD GENERAL COMPETITION. (United Press Association—By Cab.eCopyright.) (Received 8, 12.10 p.m.) London, Dec. 7. At the wool sales 10,660 bales were offered, including 3532 New Zealand, and about 7,860 were sold. There was good general competition, though there were some withdrawals of slipes. Prices, except for scoured Merinos, were unchanged from last closing. The present sales close on December 17. New Zealand scourcds, Gleumorc, 18d to 16fd; greasy Merino, Richmondbrook, lid to 10 Jd; greasy half bred, MacDonald Downs, 12Jd to IOJd. At Bradford, Merinos fine «md crossbreds tops are steady. Medium crossbreds arc slightly easier.
