T. Lang, State Premier, further advocated the nationalisation of banking. ‘ ‘ There would be no private banks in competition with the people’s own bank,” he said. Additional figures from all parts of the State indicate that Lang Plan and other Labour candidates were decisively defeated in practically every shire and municipality where they endeavoured to secure control of the council. LABOUR CANDIDATE ARRESTED. (Received 8, 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, Dec. 8. Noble Kerby, Independent Labour candidate for Melbourne Ports, was arrested on 24 warrants of commitment, these being for unpaid fines for breaches of tho Motor Car Act. Keroy was taken to gaol to begin a term of four months imprisonment, his friends continuing the campaign for him. DETECTIVE’S HOME BOMBED. (Received 8 10.5 a.m.) Melbourne, Dec. 8. Early this morning the home of Detective Dunn at St. Hilda was bombed. The front of the house was wrecked, but the members of the family, who wore asleep, were uninjured. Detective Dunn had been active in inquiries concerning Communists, and it is thought that the bombing was a reprisal. The fire brigades prevented the names from completely destroying the house. HEAVY FLOODS REPORTED. (Received 8, 10.5 a.m.) Brisbane, Dec. 8. Central and south-western and coastal districts are menaced by the most extensive floods for years. Torrential rain has fallen for over a week and many rivers and creeks arc already in high flood. Railway and mail services are disorganised and great damage is considered inevitable. SECESSION BILL DROPPED. (Received 8, .10.5 a.m.) Perth, Dec. 8. The Assembly and Council managers failed to agree on amendments to the Secession Referendum Bill and the measure was dropped in the dying hours of the session.
