Their Majesties the King and Queen have returned to Buckingham Palace and the Court will remain in London for a fortnight. The Press Association is now officially informed that Sir Apirana Ngata, Minister of Native Affairs, has finally decided not to seek re-election for the Eastern Maori district at the expiration of thc present Parliament. Mr Harry Andrews, a former resident of Napier, and one of the earliest members of the Napier Frivolity Minstrels was a visitor to Napier yesterday, renewing acquaintance with many old friends! The engagement is announced of Winifred Mary, only daughter of the Archbishop of New Zealand and Mrs Averill, to the Rev. Lawrence Edwin Cartridge elder son of Mr and Mrs J. E. Cartridge, of Whitby, Yorkshire, England. A vote of condolence to the relatives of the late Mr E. H. Williams was passed by Napier Rotarians at their weekly luncheon yesterday. Reference to the great love held for the deceased by Napier citizens was made by ChiefRotarian Geddis, who said that the many friends of the deceased knew him to be a typical English gentleman. Employers and men in the engineering trade throughout New Zealand sitting in the Conciliation Council this morning at Wellington recorded their sympathy with the relatives of the late Sir John Luke, who was described by the Commissioner, Mr Hally, as one of tho most valuable men associated with trade in the Dominion.—Press Assn. Mr Archie Young, formerly of Napier, who was a valued member of the Frivolity Minstrels and Orphans’ Orchestras. has secured a position with a firm of cutlery manufacturers in London. He is keeping up his musical studies, and has appeared among the first violinists at the orchestral concerts of the Central London Choral and Orchestral Society, and the Stockwell Orchestral Society.
