OTANE ITEMS

Welcome rain fell throughout the district from seven o’clock on Sunday evening, continuing in a steady downpour till nine a.m. on Monday. Most of the tanks were practically empty in the township, and the shortage of water was becoming a serious problem. This year the Otane branch of the Women’s Institute is having its annual Christmas treat on Tuesday 15th instant,'and this time all children attending the primary school up to standard 6, and whose parents are members, may receive a gift from the Christmas tree. The Otane Gun Club is organising a shoot for Saturday, December 19, commencing at 11.30 a.m., the whole proceeds to be devoted to St. Hilda’s Home for their Christmas benefit. The honorary secretaries, Messrs A. Ridge and A. Robottom, are appealing to the gun club members of Hawke’s Bay to assist this worthy cause as they have in the past. Shooting will be conducted under the grouping system, and valuable trophies are being donated by well wishers and also the Otane G”n Club. It is the intention of the committee to have three competitions, a special attraction for the many ladies who will be present, and suitable and attractive prizes will be given to the winners. Notices of the shoot, will be forwarded to all gun clubs, and should any sympathiser be missed a hearty invitation is extended to all.
