INTERESTING BUS TRIP.

(To the Editor.) Sir,—l took a bus trip the other day to Napier, via Pakowhai and Taradale, and was surprised to note the fine scenic features en route. Perhaps it may interest some of your readers to know that for a very modest sum, they can view some of the finest scenery around this district, by making a round trip in going to Napier. The observation buses going via Pakowhai. leaving Russell street, Hastings, either at 10 a.m. or 1 p.m., give a fine opportunity for sight seeing. The fine poplar avenue on Pakowhai road presents, just now especially, a fine picture. The trees, spaced so uniformly and growing so systematically, are among the tallest in Hawke’s Bay, and the perspective view, as one travels along this avenue, could not be surpassed. After crossing the Ngaruroro river, the road leads through the fine rural district of Pakowhai, with orchards on either side, until the Waiohiki golf links and dairy factory are reached, the hills giving a fine colourful background. The Tutaekuri river is crossed at Redclyffe bridge, a popular spot for picnics, and, turning to tho right, the road runs through plantations of trees, through which glimpses of rolling downs are obtained, the whole surroundings being wrapt in sylvan beauty. Passing through the environs of Taradale, noted for gardens and vineyards, the road leads through the town of Taradale, with its fine Post Office and War Memorial. The bus route here diverges to the right, and runs through Meanee, traversing the Riverbend road, with the Tutaekuri river in view most of the time, reaches Napier after crossing the bridge at the north-west side. I would commend this trip to anyone wishing to see some typical Hawke’s Bay scenery, at the present time look, ing at its best.—Yours, etc.. RESIDENT.
